About the event

Being a Community Schools Leader - No Transformative Work Happens Without Leadership

July 25th, 9 AM - 3 PM with Networking to Follow

Join us as we look at the broader context of transformative work.

We will provide leadership examples and opportunities for facilitated discussion with other school leaders from around New York State. The day is designed for school building and district leaders to gain insight from examples of leaders at Community Schools, and have an opportunity to work through challenges and opportunities through facilitated discussions led by Syracuse University and the Coalition for Community Schools.

Keynote Speakers:

  • Dr. Vic Young - Victor Young is currently managing director of VCY Stratagem LLC (www.vcy-stratagem.com). He brings over 45 years of experience in education, philanthropy, community-building, and collaboration, having been involved with some of the most impactful school improvement and community collaborations in the country. Victor has extensive experience with numerous school districts and communities across the country, having actively worked in over 40 states during his career. He has either directly supported or advised many major foundations such as Ford, Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, Rockefeller, Heinz Endowments, Stuart and Cleveland Foundations in the areas of complex community collaboration, policy formation or improving teaching and learning. Victor is affectionately referred to as the “O.G. of Collective Impact” by colleagues and friends. A native of West Philadelphia, he is married with two adult children and a wonderfully quirky granddaughter.

  • Anibal Soler, Jr. - Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent of Schools
  • Kwesi Rollins - A member of IEL's Senior Leadership Team, Kwesi Rollins guides IEL’s portfolio of programs designed to develop and support leaders with a particular emphasis on Family and Community Engagement, Community Schools,  Principal Leadership, and Community-based Leadership Development.  Kwesi has over 30 years of experience working with local communities and state agencies to improve cross-sector collaboration and service delivery systems supporting children, youth, and families.
